Big Brother Big Sisters of New York (BBBSNYC) Director of Outreach, Diego Romero, discusses with host the importance and impact of mentoring, especially when it comes to boys of color. Diego also discussed the agency's celebration of January as National Mentoring Month. During the month BBBSNYC opened three new offices in the boroughs of Staten Island, Queens and the Bronx. BBBSNYC also held its official open house for its office in Brooklyn. Now, residents of each borough can stay in their community to register as Bigs or Littles. As part of National Mentoring month, the agency also held its annual Golf Tournament in Grand Central. Diego put our a call to action asking New Yorkers to invite friends to become Bigs, since referrals are the agency's most successful means of recruiting new volunteers. He invited those who are not yet able to volunteer to join one of BBBSNYC's Affinity Groups.
