In August 2006, The Steering Committee (comprised of nearly 150 of New York State’s youth-serving agencies — including BBBS of NYC) championed the passage of the Safe Mentoring Act which gave mentoring agencies across the state access to New York State fingerprinting and requires these agencies to inform parents of the kinds of background checks they run.
