For over 25 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC (BBBS of NYC) has pioneered a workplace mentoring model that makes it easy and worthwhile for companies to give back.
The BBBS of NYC's Workplace Mentoring Program (WMP) provides NYC high school students with the critical skills needed to achieve their full career potential through a mentoring relationship with a caring adult role model. By partnering with the WMP, companies are making an investment in the development of the next generation of leaders.
Students are matched in one to one mentoring relationships with company employees who, through structured program activities, help map out the students' futures. Each program day is designed and facilitated by a BBBS of NYC program manager. Program managers each hold a master's degree in Social Work and are on-site each program day to support mentoring matches.
A group of 10-15 mentoring matches meet at the company twice a month (e.g. every other Tuesday) typically from 4-6pm. The topics for our curriculum focus on career and life skills. Topics include: business etiquette, career exploration, financial investment, teamwork and company pride. We also work closely with the mentors to incorporate the company's core values and resources into program activities.
More than forty corporations and 1,000 Bigs and Littles now participate in our Workplace Mentoring Program. To learn more or become a Workplace Mentoring Program Partner, please contact us.
