Latino Bigs is a grassroots movement composed of socially conscious Latino volunteers and is
part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC. Their mission is to empower the Latino community through
one-to-one mentoring to ensure that Latino children in NYC have access to positive adult role
Latino Bigs conducts monthly meetings to support current Latino volunteers and develop creative
ideas that will inform and involve Latino New Yorkers, raising awareness about the needs of
Latino children in our community and sharing the power of mentoring. With over 100 members,
Latino Bigs speak out and spread the word by organizing fun community events that will attract
They hold events at historic Latino venues, like Nuyorican Poets Café (with a
performance by Yerbabuena), as well as comedy nights and bar parties. Latino Bigs are part
of the pre-celebration for the Puerto Rican Day Parade and host an annual Step Up to the
Plate softball fundraiser in June.
Meetings are open to all Latino volunteers in Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC’s
mentoring programs - and to anyone interested in becoming a volunteer!

BBBS of NYC has an immediate need for Latino volunteers. Latino children comprise a
large percentage of the children waiting for mentors. The goal of Latino Bigs is to increase
the involvement of the Latino community within BBBS of NYC so that every child who wants
and needs a mentor will have one.
Research shows that a positive role model in a child's life is a very important factor
in preventing the development of serious problems. It only takes a few hours a month to
change a child’s life. Isn’t it time you give back? ¿QUÉ ESPERAS?
