Elizabeth Klemmer: What it
Means to Be a "Big"
The responsibility of having the trust of a young woman, watching a shy, giggly,
dimpled nine year old develop into a creative, thinking, kind, dimpled young
woman. A constant reminder of how tough and confusing the teen years are, multiplied
by 1000 for a teen in the city. Being one half of a relationship filled with
confidences, growth, fascination, and fun. Getting lip gloss tips and manicure
instructions - she's on it. The responsibility of having the trust of a young
woman who will tell me what she can tell no one else. Knowing I'm giving all
I've got to help one child see what's possible, to dream really big and doing
everything I can to help her live out those dreams.
