Workplace Mentoring Partners

A successful collaboration among local schools, corporations and BBBS of NYC, the Workplace Mentoring Center encompasses mentoring programs at corporate sites where youth are introduced to the world of work through a mentor, and employees are given the convenient opportunity to become effective volunteers at work despite their busy schedules.

Every other week, we bring 6th - 12th grade students to the offices of our corporate partners in New York City where they meet with a Big Brother or Sister for two hours after school. Employee Bigs and their Littles enjoy fun activities that help the Littles learn about the business world and gain important life skills.

Each one-to-one mentoring relationship is supervised by our expert social work staff and is integrated into the companies’ industries and employees’ professional roles, with a structured, customized curriculum developed by BBBS of NYC. No other program in the city provides this level of support to its corporate partners and program participants.

As Bigs and Littles form powerful new bonds, Littles become accustomed to the workplace environment while Bigs feel better about their employers, increase their self-esteem, and gain a greater understanding of social issues in the city.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City’s Workplace Mentoring program coincides with the school year, running from October through June' but can also run as a half-year pilot program beginning in January. Typically, each partner corporation pays a fee per employee volunteer and child with whom they are matched with a minimum of 10 matches to support the costs of the program. Our program cost includes school guidance counselor honoraria, transportation for the youth traveling to and from the company, group field trips, and the assigned BBBS of NYC Program Manager’s time and expertise.

Research shows that our program changes not only the lives of the city’s underprivileged youth, but also the work environments of the corporations and the lives of their employees.

More than fourty five corporations and 1,000 Bigs and Littles now participate in our Workplace Mentoring Program.
