A long-time partner of Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC, The Child Center of NY (formerly Queens Child Guidance Center) is a 54-year-old community-based non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the emotional well being of children, adolescents and their families. With program sites at 11 neighborhood clinics and 31 public schools, the Center helps families by counseling emotionally disturbed and substance abusing children, youth and families; protecting youngsters from abuse and neglect; visiting homes to keep youngsters from reaching the psychiatric hospital door; enhancing the literacy skills and development of children and youth; and providing public speakers who offer expertise on practical parenting issues. The Center refers children in need of caring, adult role models to Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC. By having social work staff on-site at CCNY's Jamaica Clinic, BBBS of NYC continues to provide the technical assistance and expertise needed to serve increasing numbers of Queens youth with quality mentors.
