Home > About Us > Center for Training and Professional Development Since 1992, Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City's Center for Training and Professional Development has been mentoring hundreds of youth-serving organizations throughout New York City with the goal of serving more youth with one-to-one adult volunteers. Professional staff and facilitators bring their practice, knowledge, and skill from the field into each of the training events offered.
The Center for Training provides ongoing on-site training and technical assistance to hundreds of non-profit agencies interested in setting up their own mentoring programs. This includes free access to BBBS NYC's unique and highly respected Match Matrix Database program. Each year the Center hosts workshops, conferences and lectures. Through the Borough Mentoring Network, mentoring agencies can share ideas and issues specific to their neighborhood with their peers. The Center connects qualified volunteers with specialized skill sets with non-profits throughout the city, through the Volunteer Connections Program.
BBBS NYC administers the Mentoring Supervisor Certificate Program, developed in conjunction with Fordham University's Graduate School of Social Service. This 32-hour intensive course is the first academic certificate program for mentoring professionals in the country and serves as a national model.
BBBS NYC is also active in lobbying the New York State Government to develop legislation to create standards for agencies conducting mentoring programs.
